Great Lakes Grand Prix Blog

August 3-6, many of the world’s fastest and most powerful boats will return to La Porte County, speeding past spectators on Washington Park Beach at 150 miles per hour at the Great Lakes Grand Prix. The best viewing area on the five-mile Michigan City rectangular race course is at turn one on the Michigan City Lighthouse Pier. It’s part of the heart-pounding, fist-clenching Super Boat International Offshore Racing Series. Series events take place all around the country with the best-of-the-best vying to take home the title in the most competitive offshore powerboat racing competition.

Racers, team members and boat owners offer unique perspectives on what it’s like to ride on one of these mammoth watercrafts in the Dry Pits/Race Village. VIPs get even more one-on-one time with the competitors at the VIP parties, brunch and banquet. Spectators can get up close and personal with the mighty boats throughout the weekend. Keep the adrenaline pumping during the block party and Taste of Michigan City. Both parties are chocked full of great live entertainment, food and drinks. Spectators can cash in on extra fun with free parking and shuttle service from Blue Chip Casino, Hotel & Spa to Washington Park.
